It was a 3 course meal (so each of us got a 3 course meal), with each course having 3 to choose from. Some of the things we ate (shown below):
- Tofu (tasted very Chinese)
- Salmon (pretty nice and unique)
- Octopus in dashi (I still think they beat the octopus too much so it doesn't feel like tako anymore)
- Beef stew
- Smoked mackerel (the preparation sounded intense, though the smokiness wasn't really there)
The best dish of the night was their Cedar Smoked Gelato (not shown below).
Overall though, we thought the old Naka tasted better. The food tonight was ok, but nothing spectacular. The stew and the tofu tasted very very Chinese (except if this was an Chinese restaurant, the dishes would cost a fraction of the price). Surprisingly though, I was not hungry even though it was only 3 courses (though I did have a bowl of rice and probably a quarter of lil friend's meal :) ).
The server did say they are planning to change the menu every month. Hopefully their smoked black cod and sous-vide egg comes back soon!
With dinner ending early, we strolled around Cap Hill and went to a bookstore and a coffee shop. Chilled around the area just enough to see the hot dog stands start opening up. That was actually pretty fun! As the time drew near, we then headed to the one and only Cinerama for our balcony seats!
Beauty and the Beast with chocolate popcorn in hand... The movie was ok - felt like there were too many times where the breakout into a song didn't really make sense to. Though it also may be because I was comparing it to La La Land, which is on a different level than this movie.
Date night complete!
